Unique Things to Do in Gozo Malta in 2 Days or Less
Whether you knew it or not, the island of Gozo is a treasure trove for fun and historical activities that many visitors to Malta do not take the time to see.
Away from the mainland of Malta, Gozo is accessible by ferry. A trip to Gozo should take visitors one or two nights, unless you are visiting for the beach season. I visited in the off-season in February, and although the main towns were quiet and tourist-free, we found tranquility and beauty everywhere.
Below, let me share with you some of the many wonderful things to do in Gozo Malta, from natural attractions, historical sites in Gozo, gastronomic delights, where to stay and more.

Things to Do in Gozo Malta
Natural Attractions
Xwejni Salt Pans
We visited the salt pans without much fuss - a drive-by, really. But there's much to see. Cruise the coastline and see what seems like hundreds of square salt pools where they harvest the famous Gozo salt.
Then, head into any of the shops on the island to buy some!
Gozo Blue Hole and the Collapsed Azure Window Arch
Many say that this is a must visit for Gozo (you can read reviews here), but in my experience, especially given that it was February, visiting the blue hole was not an option since it is for swimming!
Nearby, however, there are some other important places along the same route.
This photo below is of the "Inland Sea Dive Site" and "Dwerja Boat Trips" if you look it up on Google. You can take small boats into the cave for diving or swimming.
For us, we popped down to the boat dock, clearly not in operation that day, and then visited the cliffs where the Game of Thrones filmed the famous wedding scene between Daenerys and Aquaman....I mean, Khal Drogo. You can put in "Blue Hole Viewpoint" on your Google maps.
The drive up is a bit harrowing and it was super windy, but if you enjoy a good walkabout near cliffs and rocky areas, this was a nice stop.
As you can see, the arch should have been between the big rock and the cliff. The opposite side of that is the Blue Hole. Not exactly a day for swimming, was it?
Other Natural Attractions
I looked these up but didn't visit, but you can also visit Ninu's Cave or Xerri's Grotto Basement which are literally little caves you can visit located under people's houses. Cool and cheap for a quick stop.
Historical Sites on Gozo
Older than the Egyptian pyramids, the Ggantija megalithic temples have stood the test of time for nearly 6,000 years.
A visit to this complex includes lovely pathways and hidden corners full of historic stone structures.
Pro Tip: Use your ticket to visit the windmill below, which is included!
A short walk away, visit the 200 year old windmill from the time of the Knights, when it was used for bread making, of all things!
See the interior gears and mechanisms that operate the windmill, and see coals burning on the stove as if you've been put into the past.
The Citadel in Victoria
You can't miss this giant castle-like structure (shown in the image below), which stands proudly in the skyline for miles across central Gozo.
Markets, Shops and Wineries on Gozo
It-tokk Market
Held every morning in Savina Square in Victoria, this is your typical open-air market for local food products, housewares, clothes or souvenirs. Check for off-season closures.
There's a lot going on at this lovely vineyard. Go for tastings in the shop, which includes their wines and fruits of the farm from their trees and olive groves.
We dropped in to taste what they had and it was a lovely short stop. My husband pet the pups that lived there and I browsed the wares. We took home several jars of the sundried tomato paste that is popular on Gozo. It is a must if you haven't tried it.
Of course the popular Gozo salt can be found here and just about everywhere on Gozo as well.
Note that they had the farm shop location and also another one in a more industrial area. We went to both, but the industrial area one is now permanently closed. Go to the location along the roadside instead - you won't be disappointed!
This Gozitan winery offers 2 hour tastings and Tours for 45 euros per person. As part of your deal you'll get a nice meat and cheese platter, along with traditional Maltese offerings.
Gozo Tours
Because I traveled with a rental car, I did all this on my own. But if you prefer tours, I recommend looking at these aggregate tour operators:
To be fair, they all generally host the same tours, so choose based on price, rating, ability for free cancellation, and traveler photos.
Where to Eat in Gozo
In Victoria dine at the British style pub, Cafe Jubilee. With unmatched and quintessentially kitschy decor, this place has all the right vibes for the once British-occupied Isle.
I loved it so much that I went for dinner and then again the next day for a full English breakfast!
In Xlendi, pop into the picturesque cove for an afternoon drink on the water or enjoy a Mediterannean seafood lunch at any of the restaurants.
Where to Stay in Gozo
The place I stayed in Gozo is sadly no longer in operation, however there are many affordable and cute places to stay in Victoria, which is one of the main cities on Gozo.
I recommend staying somewhere walking distance to Cafe Jubilee (you can use that as a landmark when you search), because it is central to the downtown plaza area.

Everything you need to know about ferries in Malta can be found at this link.
Note that Gozo CAN be a day trip from Malta without an overnight stay, but you'll have to adhere to ferry schedules to be sure you get back in the same day!
The smaller (much smaller) island of Comino between Gozo and Malta is also accessible by ferry. Schedules can be found at the links above.
